Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Wolfsburg clash
Louis van Gaal delivers the latest team news ahead of Manchester United's Champions League clash with Wolfsburg
Michael Carrick has been ruled out of Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Wolfsburg at Old Trafford due to injury, Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
The England international midfielder has been struggling with a calf injury in recent weeks and is set to miss out when the Red Devils host the German outfit on Wednesday night.
The United boss also confirmed that both Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia are also doubts for Wednesday night’s clash, but played down the seriousness of the duo’s injury problems.
Speaking at a news conference at Carrington on Tuesday afternoon, Van Gaal said: “I don’t think Michael Carrick will play tomorrow.
“We have to wait and see with Valencia and Herrera. They have minor injuries and I don’t want to take any risks.”
United head into Wednesday’s game on the back of their comfortable 3-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. That victory lifted Van Gaal’s men up to the top of the Premier League, one point clear of local rivals Manchester City.
The Red Devils suffered a 2-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in their group-stage opener earlier this month.
