Van Gaal gives latest Man United injury update after Ipswich win
Louis van Gaal confirms that Manchester United have no fresh injury concerns after Wednesday's win over Ipswich
Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Manchester United suffered no fresh injuries during Wednesday night’s League Cup win over Ipswich Town.
Goals from Wayne Rooney, Andreas Periera and Andreas Pereira wrapped up a 3-0 win for the Red Devils and booked their place in the fourth round of the cup competition.
United were also boosted by the return to action of defender Phil Jones, who played the final 30 minutes at Old Trafford for Van Gaal’s side.
And the Dutchman expressed his delight at the overall result as the Red Devils now turn their attentions to their Premier League clash with Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Van Gaal told MUTV after Wednesday’s game: “The result was great. We don’t have injuries. I brought in players, I rotated players. Phil Jones has played a lot of minutes. So I’m a happy coach.
“I said in advance to Phil [Jones] about how many minutes he thought he could play. 20, 30…he thinks more! It is not so easy to do that, but I asked him after the game if he felt fit and he said he did.
“He could easily have played more minutes so that’s a good signal.”
United head into their clash against the Black Cats in second place in the Premier League table and just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
The Red Devils have scored six goals in their last two league games, netting three times against Liverpool and Southampton.
