Van Gaal gives latest Man United injury update ahead of Sunderland test
Louis van Gaal confirms that Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair will miss Manchester United's clash with Sunderland
Marcos Rojo has been ruled out of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Sunderland on Saturday, Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
The Argentina international was substituted during the 3-2 win over Southampton last weekend and sat out the midweek League Cup win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal also confirmed that fellow defender Paddy McNair will miss the visit of the Black Cats due to a minor injury problem but should not be out of action for too lond.
Speaking to MUTV at Carrington on Friday afternoon, Van Gaal said: “We have three injuries – Rojo, Shaw and Paddy McNair.
“It’s the same and we have to wait to see how the players recover because there are only two days between the two matches. Until now I don’t know how I’ll put the line-up.”
Van Gaal also delivered good news about Luke Shaw following the left-back’s horrific leg break last week.
The defender has already begun his rehabilitation after undergoing successful surgery in the Netherlands after the 2-1 Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.
Van Gaal continued: “I spoke to him last night. He was very positive. It’s amazing for me. There are very good signals. We have already started the rehabilitation.
“He shall be visited at home for the first electro muscle stimulants, so I think it’s very good.”
United head into Saturday’s game in second place in the Premier League table and just two points behind early pace-setters Manchester City.
