Wayne Rooney: Why Liverpool is the best game for Man United
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is relishing the prospect of facing Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday
Wayne Rooney says Manchester United needed a game like their bitter clash with Liverpool to respond to their recent Premier League setback.
The Red Devils welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Saturday evening after a surprise 2-1 defeat by Swansea City in their most recent top-flight outing at Liberty Stadium before the international break.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are smarting from their own hiccup after Brendan Rodgers’s side suffered a resounding 3-0 defeat by West Ham United at Anfield in their most recent Premier League game.
And Rooney, who became England’s all-time record goal-scorer on Tuesday night, is eagerly-anticipating the visit of the five-time European champions.
“To achieve what I have, I would be lying if I said it didn’t put a spring in my step and make you want to carry on scoring,” Rooney told Sky Sports.
“I am very happy and grateful, but I go back to Manchester, get back into training and start focusing on Liverpool. Hopefully getting two goals in the last two games will mean I continue scoring.
“There’s no better game to go into than Liverpool at home after losing our last game [at Swansea]. It is a game we have to win and it’s something I’m looking forward to.”
Rooney surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s England record of 49 goals with his 50th strike in a 2-0 victory over Switzerland at Wembley in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Tuesday night.
The United captain, who scored a hat-trick against Club Brugge last month, is still waiting for his first Premier League goal of the season.
