Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Olympiacos defeat
Arsene Wenger confirms that Laurent Koscielny has suffered a hamstring injury in the build-up to Manchester United clash
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Laurent Koscielny is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury after the defender was forced off during Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Olympiacos on Tuesday night.
The French centre-half pulled up midway through the second half after suffering the problem and is set to be out of action ahead of the visit of Manchester United on Sunday.
Asked about Koscielny’s injury after Tuesday night’s game, Wenger confirmed that the defender had suffered a hamstring problem.
Wenger told his post-match news conference: “It is a hamstring. This is why I rotate as we play many games. The other teams do it as well.
“You look at the other teams in Europe’s benches and you will see them rotate. You cannot play every three days without rotating your players That is a fact and you have to accept that.”
Theo Walcott cancelled out Felipe Pardo’s opener at Emirates Stadium, before Gunners goalkeeper David Ospina fumbled the ball over the line to hand the visitors the lead heading into half-time.
Alexis Sanchez headed in an equaliser in the 65th minute but Alfred Finnbogason poked the visitors ahead once again just 59 seconds later.
The result left Arsenal bottom of Group F and in danger of being eliminated from Arsenal’s elite club competition ahead of two games against leaders Bayern Munich.
