Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Stoke test
Arsene Wenger says Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are both on course to be fit for Arsenal's clash with Stoke City
Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are both on course to be fit for Arsenal’s clash with Stoke City at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Arsene Wenger has revealed.
Mertesacker has missed Arsenal’s last two games due to illness, while Koscielny has recently been struggling with a back problem.
However, Wenger confirmed on Thursday morning that the duo are in good shape ahead of the Potters’ visit to north London on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking at a news conference at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Thursday morning, Wenger said: “Nobody has come back injured from international duty.
“Koscielny is OK, Mertesacker is back in full training.”
Wenger also confirmed that midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered a “little setback” in his recovery from ankle surgery and will not be available to face Stoke.
Arsenal head into Saturday’s game looking to make it back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.
The Gunners are currently sixth in the top flight table after having taken seven points from their opening four games, to leave them level with Manchester United and Liverpool.
