Alberto Moreno runs rule over Liverpool’s ‘100 per cent’ change under Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno speaks of his 'rage' after being out-of-favour under Brendan Rodgers
Alberto Moreno says Liverpool have “100 per cent” changed under Jurgen Klopp after the defender was left enraged by Brendan Rodgers’s broken promises.
The Liverpool full-back made his first Premier League start of the season in September’s stalemate with Norwich City.
I think that it has been a 100 per cent change. Everything is totally different
However, Moreno was unhappy at being omitted from the starting line-up for the opening five games of the season after he was promised game time by Rodgers.
“I perhaps felt that he [Rodgers] didn’t have quite so much confidence in me, certainly at the start of the season,” Moreno is quoted as saying by Daily Telegraph.
“He told me I was training hard but then I didn’t feature for those first five or six games. He said to me that my opportunity would come but after the first game against Stoke, when we kept a clean sheet, he said he wasn’t going to change anything defensively at that point. But he did say the chance would come.
“I was angry. It never entered my head that I was going to leave. I want to stay forever but I had this inner anger, a rage almost.”
The Spain international went on to start Liverpool’s next three Premier League games before Rodgers was sacked following a stalemate in the Merseyside derby.
The Northern Irishman’s successor Klopp has started Moreno in three of his opening four games in charge of the Merseyside outfit.
And the 23-year-old revealed that it is all change under the former Borussia Dortmund manager ahead of their trip to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
“I do feel he trusts me. He spends a lot of time with me,” Moreno added.
“He really wants me to learn English as quickly as possible, so he can get his ideas over. The fact he has spent so much time with me, I think, shows up in good performances on the field.
“I think that it has been a 100 per cent change. Everything is totally different. He spoke to all the players and the first thing he said to us was that he was going to judge things on what he saw and what he felt. He told us we all started from zero.”
Moreno moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from boyhood club Sevilla in 2014.
