Arsenal 3 Man United 0: That was for Wenger, declares Walcott
Theo Walcott dedicates Arsenal's 3-0 win over Manchester United to manager Arsene wenger
Theo Walcott dedicated Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Manchester United to manager Arsene Wenger after the impressive victory moved the Gunners up to second place in the Premier League table.
Two goals from Alexis Sanchez and one from Mesut Ozil wrapped up a dominant win for the north London side heading into the international break.
And the win will ease some of the pressure on Wenger after the Gunners’ shock 3-2 loss to Olympiacos in the Champions League in midweek.
Walcott told Sky Sports: “That was all for the manager.
“There was a desire from kick-off, we looked very strong and were dominating at home against a big team and we should be playing like that every week. The players will be aching after that one, we worked so hard and rightly so.
“That first-half we were unbelievable, no-one could have dealt with us, it was the best football I have ever been involved in. It was the Arsenal of old.”
The north London side raced into an early lead when Sanchez flicked home Ozil’s low cross in the sixth minute.
And the German playmaker added a goal of his own moments later when he stroked in Walcott’s pass.
Sanchez then made it 3-0 with his second of the day when he fired in a long-range effort in the 19th minute.
United improved in the second half but were unable to break down a stubborn Arsenal defence.
