Piers Morgan has waded into the debate surrounding Paul Scholes’ recent criticism of Manchester United by taking the side of the former England international.

Scholes hit the headlines on Thursday after criticising Louis van Gaal’s side for a lack of creativity following their League Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

Red Devils boss Van Gaal hit back at Scholes during his pre-match news briefing on Friday morning, insisting that he is paying no attention to the former midfielder’s comments.

Now, celebrity fan and Arsenal shareholder Morgan has come out in support for Scholes, saying that the midfielder’s refusal to tolerate mediocrity was one of the key ingredients of his successful playing career.

Morgan tweeted:

United are gearing up for their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils are currently fourth in the table and two points behind leaders Manchester City.
