Karim Benzema has insisted that he “never” considered leaving Real Madrid to join Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

The France international was relentlessly linked with a big-money transfer to Emirates Stadium during the summer months as Arsene Wenger considered bolstering his attacking options at Emirates Stadium.

However, a move for the striker failed to materialise and the forward ended up staying at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal did not table an official bid for the striker, and Benzema now claims that he did not even consider the possibility of a move to the north London club.

Asked by Journal du Dimanche if a transfer to Arsenal was ever a possibility, Benzema replied: “Never. Like every summer, I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours.

“In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why I would leave? I’m a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it’s that simple.”

Benzema has scored seven goals for Real in all competitions so far this season.

Arsenal take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night looking to secure their first points of their European campaign.
