Nacho Monreal has underlined his desire to stay at Arsenal and sign a new long-term contract with the north London club.

The Spanish defender has become a regular fixture in Arsene Wenger’s first team in recent months after making the left-back role his own and keeping Kieran Gibbs out of the team.

The 29-year-old full-back has started all 10 of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this season and will be expecting to feature when the Gunners travel to Swansea City in the top flight on Saturday afternoon.

Monreal’s current Arsenal deal is set to expire at the end of the season – and the Spaniard admits that he is keen to put pen to paper on a new contract with the London club.

Monreal told talkSPORT: “We are talking [with the club], we need to talk and reach an agreement.

“I wish that to happen. Of course I’d like to stay here.”
