Chelsea 1 Liverpool 3: Player ratings as Philippe Coutinho sparkles

Player ratings from Stamford Bridge as Liverpool come from behind to secure a 3-1 win at Chelsea

By Joel Durston

Asmir Begovic Could not have really done anything about the goals, but did not do much to convince with his communication with his centre backs in front of him, as there were a few moments of confusion. Good save from Alberto Moreno late on, though. 5/10

Kurt Zouma Not the biggest offender at the back, but did not cover himself in glory slightly out of position on the right either and showed his limitations when pushed into a more advanced role when Chelsea were chasing the game. 5

Gary Cahill Looks a shadow of the player he was last season. 5

John Terry He has played some of his best football as his career’s gone on, but now looks to be showing his age as he’s often a vital split second off the pace, as with the third goal from Christian Benteke. 4

Cesar Azpilicueta Fine run and cross for the first goal, but was unable to stop Liverpool’s forwards taking control after. 5

Ramires Took the goal, a powerful header from a late run, very well, but was beaten very easily, albeit by great skill, by Philippe Coutinho for Liverpool’s first goal and did not have much of a better handle on his countryman and the other Liverpool attackers for the rest of the game. 5

John Obi Mikel His biggest contribution was probably getting a yellow card. 5

Willian Full of industry as always and produced some good deliveries from set pieces. The most threatening Chelsea player by a fair distance – even if that’s damning with faint praise. 7

Oscar Not very willing to do the hard defensive work. That’s not particularly unusual, but what is is the lack of creativity going forward, save for a fine effort from 45 yards out when Mignolet was off his line. 5

Eden Hazard Continued his poor run of form with a pretty anonymous performance. 5

Diego Costa Still struggling for form and was lucky an off-the-ball kick on Martin Skrtl, which the Liverpool player did not overreact to, didn’t see him sent off (though it will surely be reviewed). 5

Kenedy N/A

Cesc Fabregas N/A

Falcao N/A

Simon Mignolet Could not have really done much about the goal and after that did not have anything to do really, except a good save from a fantastic Oscar effort. 7

Nathaniel Clyne Capable at the back and got forward very well. 7

Martin Skrtel Dealt pretty well with Diego Costa and threw himself in for a couple of important blocks. Not particularly relevant to his performance but good to see him not make a meal of a nasty kick from Costa. 7

Mamadou Sakho Another strong performance from a player really coming into form and establishing himself as a first-team player. 7

Alberto Moreno Poor defending for the first goal, where he didn’t follow Ramires’ late run and just watched him like a statue. But improved after, including a good run late on which drew a good save from Begovic. 6

Emre Can Solid, combative performance to keep Chelsea’s attacking players quiet. 7

Lucas A typically tenacious performance but was slightly lucky to stay on the pitch for a dubious second yellow. 6

James Milner Hard-working as usual but did not produce any particular threat. 6

Adam Lallana Some clever touches and good movement, including great awareness for a dummy which led to the third goal. 7

Philippe Coutinho Fantastic first goal in which he completely sold Ramires with a dummy then curled it beautifully into the corner with his left foot from outside the box, and a well worked second goal, even if it was helped by a deflection. Classy throughout. 8 (Man of the match)

Roberto Firmino Did reasonably up front on his own, with neat touches and clever interplay, but he is not really the type of player to lead the line against Chelsea. 6

Christian Benteke A big presence since he came on, offering something very different option from Firmino. Won a bigger header to set up the first goal and worked then finished the second one cleverly too. 8

Jordon Ibe A real livewire when he came on down the right, looking to run at players and feed Benteke. 8
