Chelsea issue statement about Jose Mourinho’s future
Chelsea release a statement underlining their full support for manager Jose Mourinho after the Blues' poor start to the season
Chelsea have released a statement issuing their full backing for Jose Mourinho following the club’s disastrous start to the new season.
The Portuguese coach has found himself in the unusual position of being under pressure in the wake of the Blues’ shock 3-1 loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Results have not been good enough and the team’s performances must improve
That result left the Blues down in 16th place in the Premier League table, and a staggering 10 points behind leaders Manchester City after losing four of their opening eight top-flight games.
Mourinho insisted that he would not step down as manager in the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s loss and vowed to help Chelsea rescue their season and secure a top four finish in the Premier League.
Now, the west London club have underlined their commitment to their manager by releasing a statement on Mourinho’s future via their official website.
The Chelsea statement read: “The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support.
“As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team’s performances must improve.
“However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action when they host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge after the international break on 17 October.
