Alex Teixeira has revealed that Chelsea are interested in signing him from Shakhtar Donetsk in January and says that he would “welcome” the challenge of playing in the Premier League.

The Blues have inevitably been linked with a host of players as the winter transfer window approaches following the west London club’s stuttering start to the season under Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea find themselves down in 15th place in the Premier League table heading into this weekend’s clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

And Teixeira, who has netted 16 goals in just 11 league games for Shakhtar this season, says that he is flattered to be touted as a possible target for the defending Premier League champions.

Teixeira told Globo Esporte: “It’s all rumours so far. I’m glad to hear a club as big as Chelsea is interested on me.

“It would be important to play a tournament such as the Premier League, and better yet if it came in January. I’m welcoming a new challenge.”

Chelsea head into Saturday’s clash with Liverpool after suffering back to back defeats. The west London side were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United last weekend and were dumped out of the League Cup on penalties by Stoke City.
