Christian Benteke: Liverpool players desperate to impress Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool striker Christian Benteke says the Reds squad are trying to prove they deserve to play under new manager
Christian Benteke has reiterated that the Liverpool players are giving 100 per cent under Jurgen Klopp after a 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Substitute Benteke looked to have powered the home side to three points after a thunderous header in the 77th minute edged Liverpool ahead.
he manager brings something else, we need to play with a high intensity
However, Mane capitalised on confusion in the Reds’s defence to salvage a point for the Saints before the Senegal forward was sent off in added time.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the 1-1 draw, Benteke stressed that the Reds players are still adjusting to their new manager’s tactics after the draw.
“As a striker you are always happy when you score but the important thing was getting three points. And we couldn’t do that,” Benteke told BBC Sport.
“We deserved to win. We showed a lot of good positive things.
“The manager brings something else, we need to play with a high intensity. We want to show him why we should play for Liverpool.”
Benteke has scored three goals in six Premier League games for Liverpool since his £32.5m move from Aston Villa under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers in the summer.
The Belgium international is the second most-expensive player in Liverpool’s history behind West Ham United striker Andy Carroll.
