Christian Benteke sends warning to Chelsea ahead of Liverpool clash
Christian Benteke is fit and ready to face Chelsea on Saturday as Liverpool aim to heap further misery on Jose Mourinho
Christian Benteke has warned Chelsea that he is feeling sharp as he and his Liverpool team-mates gear up for their crunch Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.
The Belgium international had been an injury doubt for this weekend’s game after sitting out Liverpool’s midweek win over Bournemouth in the League Cup due to a knee problem.
However, Benteke has been passed fit by manager Jurgen Klopp to feature against the Blues at Stamford Bridge – and the striker is ready to take his chance to help the Reds record their first Premier League win under their new manager.
Benteke, who joined the Merseyside outfit from Aston Villa during the summer, told Liverpool’s website: “I’m good. I just felt something during the game against Southampton last week.
“Now it’s behind me and I’m looking forward to the Chelsea game.
“It was a bit hard for me during the transfer window – I didn’t really have a normal pre-season. Now I’m trying to get back to my old level.
“Injuries are part of football but I’m trying to do everything I can to be fit for the rest of the season and to play every game. I try to stay as long as possible [at Melwood] to be really fully fit.”
Chelsea head into the game on the back of defeats by West Ham United and Stoke City as they look to turn around their poor form. The Blues are currently 15th in the table and 11 points behind leaders Manchester City after 10 games.
