Dani Alves says Chelsea forward Pedro Rodriguez should have stayed at Barcelona this summer.

The World Cup winner penned a four-year deal with the defending Premier League champions after Chelsea agreed a £21m deal with Barcelona for the decorated winger.

However, Pedro has struggled to have a telling impact on the struggling Chelsea side, scoring one goal and making one assist in eight appearances in all competitions for the west London outfit.

And his former Barcelona team-mate Alves, who was also linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer but remained at Camp Nou, explained why Pedro made a mistake moving away from the La Liga champions.

“I told Pedro he should have stayed at the team but too many people got involved,” Alves is quoted as saying by London Evening Standard.

“Had he stayed he would have been happy here but we don’t make the decisions. If we did I would want him to stay for years.”

Chelsea face struggling Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League fixture.

The west London side are in 16th place after a disappointing start to the campaign.

The Blues have already lost to Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Porto and Southampton this season.
