Jose Mourinho hits out at Belgium coach over Eden Hazard claims
Jose Mourinho reacts angrily to suggestions that Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has urged Eden Hazard to join Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho has launched a thinly-veiled attack on Marc Wilmots amid claims that the Belgium coach has advised Eden Hazard to join Real Madrid from Chelsea.
It had been suggested that Wilmots had privately told Hazard that a transfer to Real Madrid would benefit him following Chelsea’s stuttering star to the season.
Wilmots has publicly denied the reports by branding them as “nonsense” and insisting that he has said no such thing to the 24-year-old playmaker.
However, that did not stop Mourinho from aiming a dig at the national team coach during his weekly news conference at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon.
Mourinho said: “The national team is the national team and the coach is the coach.
“When he [Hazard] is in the national team I don’t open my mouth. Ever. I don’t comment about my players in the national team, if they play, if they don’t, if they play well. I don’t open my mouth.
“But some people don’t have the same ethics and they comment when the players are at the club. That’s not my problem.”
Asked about Real’s interest in Hazard, Mourinho added: “I don’t speak about Real Madrid. I have ethics. I don’t speak.”
Hazard has been strongly linked with a transfer to Real Madrid in recent weeks, speculation that increased last week after the PFA player of the year ‘liked’ an Instagram post reporting the rumours.
Asked about the claims that he had advised Hazard to consider a transfer to Real Madrid, Wilmots told RTBF: “The conversations I can have with the players stay between us, but in this case I felt obliged to react.
“I’m supposed to have spoken with Hazard about a transfer to Real? That’s nonsense!”
