Fantasy Football: Costa, Sterling and more – your weekend picks

Here are the best picks for your Fantasy Football team ahead of this weekend's Premier League fixtures

Goalkeepers

Boaz Myhill (£4.7m) Some Fantasy Football players may be tempted to plump for David De Gea ahead of the Manchester derby. However, Boaz Myhill looks a safer bet for some clean sheet bonus points. West Bromwich Albion make the trip to Norwich City, who are winless in three games. Myhill has already kept five clean sheets this season, including a shutout in a 1-0 win against Sunderland last weekend.

Defenders

Jose Fonte (£5.4m) You can have your pick of Southampton centre-halves after Jose Fonte and Virgin van Dijk were among the best-performing defenders last weekend. However, the Saints captain is marginally better value. Fonte scored in a 2-2 draw with Leicester City at St Mary’s as he made eight clearances and three interceptions. Southampton face a Liverpool side that have struggled for goals in recent weeks.

Carl Jenkinson (£5.0m) The West Ham United defender is in great goal-scoring form. The England Under-21 international has scored against Sunderland and Crystal Palace in his last two Premier League games. The Hammers face Chelsea at Upton Park on Saturday and Jenkinson could have more joy against an unconvincing Blues defence.

Midfielders

Georginio Wijnaldum (£6.9m) It would be folly to omit Georginio Wijnaldum from your Fantasy Football team considering his heroics last weekend. The Newcastle United midfielder scored four times in a 6-2 victory over Norwich City. He completed 23 passes in the opposition’s half against the Canaries, suggesting he could be good for assist points, too. Newcastle face Sunderland in the derby at Stadium of Light this weekend. Wijnaldum has scored five goals and has made an assist in his last three appearances, so he is a must.

Raheem Sterling (£8.8m) Raheem Sterling is Manchester City’s best-performing midfielder this season ahead of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. He is also cheaper than the aforementioned trio. Sterling scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend to take his tally four goals in nine games. The England international’s pace could cause United problems in Sunday’s derby.

Strikers

Diego Costa (£11.0m) There are signs Chelsea striker Diego Costa is starting to rediscover some pretty decent form. Costa broke the deadlock against Aston Villa last weekend before a second-half strike was deflected past Brad Guzan. Costa scored against the Hammers last season, too.

Jamie Vardy (£7m) The Leicester City striker is the highest-scoring striker in the Premier League – and in Fantasy Football, too. Jamie Vardy has scored nine times in nine games, scoring in six successive games for the Foxes. It would be madness not to include the England international in your Fantasy Football XI.

Captain’s pick

Vardy is a good bet with Leceister set to pace a leaky Palace defence at King Power Stadium. Or, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil or Gunners striker Alexis Sanchez could pull apart an Everton defence that shipped three against United.
