Garth Crooks has launched a scathing attack on Jose Mourinho, accusing the Chelsea manager of “child-like” tantrums and claiming that the Portuguese coach has not taken enough of the blame for the Blues’ slow start to the season.

The Blues headed into Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge looking to return to winning ways in the top flight after their 3-1 loss to Southampton before the international break.

The west London side have lost four of their opening eight top-flight games to leave their title defence in tatters.

And former Tottenham striker Crooks feels that the former Real Madrid boss should be taking more of the blame for his side’s poor start to the season.

Crooks told BBC Sport: “I am a real fan of Jose Mourinho but when things don’t go his way he is almost like a child stamping his feet. It exasperates me.

“Does any of Chelsea’s bad start to the season actually have anything to do with you, Jose?

“Is it possible that you started pre-season so late and finished last season so early that actually, you weren’t properly prepared for this campaign at all?

“Because if you get your pre-season wrong then your whole season is in trouble. And Chelsea’s season is in trouble.”

Chelsea started Saturday’s game with Aston Villa 10 points behind leaders Manchester City.

The Blues also lost the Community Shield to Arsenal at Wembley back in August and slumped to a 2-1 loss to FC Porto in the Champions League group stage before the international break.
