Frank de Boer says he is confident Louis van Gaal will be a success at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are two points behind leaders Manchester City in third place after a 3-0 loss to bitter rivals Arsenal at The Emirates in their most-recent Premier League game.

Van Gaal’s side have collected 16 points from a possible 24 after eight games in the Premier League campaign.

And De Boer, who played under the Dutchman at Ajax and Barcelona, believes the 64-year-old will be a success if the United squad follow his philosophy.

“I think he is managing very well, always protecting his players and wanting them to always give 100 per cent,” De Boer is quoted as saying by Goal.com.

“If they do that I think he is one of the best trainers in the world. I think he also learned a lot in the last couple of years about what he has to do if he is in a foreign country

“He will get what he wants if he gets time and everybody believes his philosophy.”

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil sealed Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Van Gaal’s United side in the last round of Premier League fixtures.
