Jurgen Klopp will have to convince Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho that he is the main man at Liverpool, according to Guillem Balague.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager is expected to take charge of the Reds in the coming weeks after Liverpool sacked Brendan Rodgers on Sunday evening.

The Merseyside outfit are currently in 10th place but only six points behind leaders Manchester City, who were 6-1 winners against Newcastle United.

However, Balague claimed that Klopp’s first job at Liverpool would be convincing Coutinho to ignore Barcelona interest and remain at Anfield.

Balague also revealed that Klopp was hoping to secure the Bayern Munich position should Pep Guardiola leave in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
