Ander Herrera was satisfied with a point from a “very tough derby” after Manchester United’s goalless draw with Manchester City.

The Red Devils came closest to making the breakthrough at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after Chris Smalling drew a couple of saves from City shot stopper from United corners.

Substitute Jesse Lingard hit the woodwork in the final ten minutes of the first Manchester derby of the season.

And Herrera, who started his third successive games in all competitions for the Red Devils, enjoyed the derby atmosphere at Old Trafford on Sunday:

We got a point in the derby in a very tough game. The atmosphere at Old Trafford 🔝 // conseguimos un punto en el derby , un partido durísimo, el ambiente en old trafford 🔝 🔴

£36m summer signing Anthony Martial was one of the best players on the pitch in the stalemate – and he also took to Instagram after the derby clash:

United defender Smalling, who looked most likely to make the breakthrough against the Red Devils’s bitter rivals, posted the below snap of one of his chances in the second half:

Unlucky to not get more than a point today but we'll build on this performance ⚽️🔴 @manchesterunited #mufc
