Jack Wilshere: Arsenal sending out message in Premier League title race
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says the Gunners are sending out a message in Premier League title race
Jack Wilshere says Arsenal are starting to send out a message in the Premier League title race.
The Gunners seized their chance to move above Manchester City and into top spot in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Everton at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
In the past, when we’ve needed to win to send out a message, we haven’t. We’re starting to do it now
Arsenal have won their last four games in all competitions after victories over Manchester United, Watford, Bayern Munich in the Champions League and Everton.
And Wilshere, who is currently recovering from an operation on a hairline fracture in his left leg, praised the Gunners for seizing their chance to claim top spot in the Premier League table.
“The result against Bayern was important for us,” Wilshere is quoted as saying on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday.
“It was important that we continued on from that. We saw the results earlier in the day and we knew if we won, we’d go top.
“In the past, when we’ve needed to win to send out a message, we haven’t. We’re starting to do it now.”
Wilshere added that Arsenal have responded well after a shock 2-0 defeat by West Ham United at the start of the season.
“We’ve had a strong start to the season. We lost the first game of the season but we’ve shown great character since then,” Wilshere added.
“We’ve beaten one of the best teams in the world and the most important thing is that we kept it going last night.”
Arsenal are a point clear of second-placed City ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby.
The Gunners have only conceded one goal in their last four games after Ross Barkley’s deflected strike beat Petr Cech last night.
Arsene Wenger’s side make the trip to Swansea City in their next Premier League fixture.
