Jamie Redknapp: Why Man United’s Anthony Martial will be a superstar

Jamie Rednapp says Anthony Martial is the most promising teenager since the emergence of Lionel Messi

Anthony Martial is the most promising teenager since the emergence of Lionel Messi, according to Jamie Redknapp.

The 19-year-old has made a sparkling start to his Manchester United career after joining the Old Trafford club from Monaco on deadline day last month.

Martial has already scored four goals and notched up one assist for his team-mates after establishing himself as a first-team regular under manager Louis van Gaal.

The youngster will be hoping to feature when United travel to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp has been thoroughly impressed by what he has seen from the teenager since his arrival in the Premier League.

Redknapp told Sky Sports: “I watched Anthony Martial for 90 minutes in the Champions League and the only 19-year-old I’ve seen better at that age was Lionel Messi.

“I played against Wayne Rooney when he made his debut but this boy has so much intelligence. He knows when to pass, when to cross it, when to dribble and when to shoot. He goes past people like they’re not there.

“Everything he does, there is a reason behind it. It’s like he’s been here before – certain players have this, you can’t put your finger on what it is, but it’s just a quality. I love watching him play. He’s going to be a superstar.”

Van Gaal’s men head to Emirates Stadium this weekend looking to continue their recent fine form and to claim a victory to keep their place at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their shock 3-2 loss to Olympiacos at Emirates Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
