Johnny Giles: Why Arsenal won’t win any trophies this season

The former Rep of Ireland international says Arsenal aren't consistent

Arsenal won’t win any silverware this season, according to Johnny Giles.

The Gunners are facing an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage after back-to-back defeats by Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos.

I can’t see them winning anything. They won the cup last season which is ok. There isn’t any chance of them winning the Premier League

In the Premier League, the north London side are three points behind current leaders Manchester United, who Arsene Wenger’s men face at The Emirates on Sunday evening.

And former United midfielder Giles, who was part of the great Leeds United side of the 1970s, discussed why Arsenal won’t be adding any trophies to their collection this season.

“Arsenal will be very good on some days like they were the last couple of seasons but there will be no consistency about them,” Giles told Newstalk’s Off The Ball.

“I can’t see them winning anything. They won the cup last season which is ok. There isn’t any chance of them winning the Premier League.

“They might go out in the Champions League quarter-final stage.”

Arsenal have won successive FA Cup crowns after victories over Hull City and Aston Villa at Wembley in the past two seasons.

However, Wenger hasn’t led the north London side to Premier League title glory since 2004, with legends such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires in their side.
