Jose Mourinho says he has a good relationship with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The defending Premier League champions face the Reds at Stamford Bridge as Mourinho’s side look to return to winning ways following a 2-1 defeat at West Ham United.

He is a guy I like a lot and we have a good relationship

Klopp secured his first victory as Liverpool manager mid-week after a 1-0 win against Bournemouth in the League Cup fourth round.

And Mourinho, who faced Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side in the Champions League in 2013, spoke of his respect for the 48-year-old’s body of work at the Bundesliga club.

“For Jurgen, I just say, I’m not a close friend because football doesn’t allow that,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference at Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon.

“He is a guy I like a lot and we have a good relationship.

“As a manager, his work speaks for itself. In spite of last season, which we have to forget, he is one of the top managers in Europe.”

Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers worked under Mourinho during the Portuguese’s first reign at Chelsea.

And the Blues manager said that the only change he has noticed is a slight tactical alteration following Klopp’s appointment.

Klopp added: “They are a good team. They had a good team. They have good players. They had good players. They have a very good manager. They had a very good manager. They’ve changed their tactical approach in the last two games.”

Liverpool are in ninth place in the Premier League table and two places clear of Chelsea.
