Juan Mata runs rule over Man United’s ‘unacceptable start’ at Arsenal
The Manchester United midfielder says a good streak has ended with disappointment
Juan Mata has warned Manchester United that they can ill-afford another poor start to a Premier League if Louis van Gaal’s side want to challenge for silverware.
The Red Devils were trailing 2-0 at The Emirates inside seven minutes after goals from Arsenal duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the clash in north London on Sunday afternoon.
A start like this from us is unacceptable; if we want to fight for big things, we must learn the lessons as soon as possible
The former Barcelona striker made it 3-0 to end the game as a content after just 20 minutes, and the visitors couldn’t make any inroads against Arsene Wenger’s side.
Arsenal hoisted themselves above United and into second place courtesy of their emphatic win, and Mata reflected on their dreadful start to a vital Premier League game.
“As you could see, everything went wrong in the first half. Before the game, our goal was to keep the top spot of the Premier League, but it wasn’t our day as we saw from the kick-off,” Mata wrote on his blog, One Hour Behind.
“Arsenal started with more intensity, they scored very quickly and with no time for our reaction, they scored the second goal.
“Not even 10 minutes have passed and things were looking very bad. A start like this from us is unacceptable; if we want to fight for big things, we must learn the lessons as soon as possible.
“The only thing I can say is that we shouldn’t play a game like this again.”
United are two points behind current leaders Manchester City after their 3-0 defeat by Wenger’s men.
The Red Devils have lost to Swansea City and Arsenal in the Premier League this season, earning 16 points from a possible 24.
