Juan Mata urges Man United to ‘stay positive’ after Man City stalemate
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says the Red Devils are satisfied with a point from the derby
Juan Mata has urged Manchester United to remain positive after their stalemate with Manchester City in Sunday’s derby.
The Red Devils were unable to make the breakthrough against the Premier League leaders despite Chris Smalling and Jesse Lingard coming close in the second half.
We must be positive and keep going, we are still in the main positions in the table
Spain international Mata lasted just 67 minutes of the Manchester derby before the 27-year-old was replaced by United youngster Lingard.
While United remain two points behind leaders City after their stalemate, Mata stressed the importance of not losing to the bitter rivals.
“It was a shame not being able to win, but we must be positive and keep going, we are still in the main positions in the table,” Mata wrote on his blog, One Hour Behind.
Louis van Gaal’s side managed to get six attempts on Joe Hart’s goal, although the Red Devils only had one shot on target at Old Trafford.
And Mata, who moved to United from Chelsea in a £37.1m deal in 2014, explained why the 20-time English champions struggled to create chances.
“There was a lot of intensity on the pitch, but it wasn’t easy to find spaces. It was a very tactical game with not many plays inside the box,” Mata added.
The Red Devils face Crystal Palace in their next Premier League game.
