Jurgen Klopp runs rule over ‘great’ Liverpool starlet
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Reds youngster Cameron Brannagan has all the attributes required of midfielder
Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Cameron Brannagan after the Liverpool youngster signed a new Reds contract on Monday.
The 48-year-old handed the teenager his first Liverpool start in a 1-1 draw with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in the Europa League earlier this season.
For his age, he has everything you need for a midfield player. He wants to play football, he is strong, clear, cool
Liverpool’s number 32 Brannagan, 19, has already represented England Under-20s twice in his fledgling career.
And Klopp, who agreed a deal to replace Brendan Rodgers earlier this month, hailed Brannagan after the midfielder’s new three-year contract.
“I’ve seen enough to say congratulations on this new contract,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference on Tuesday afternoon.
“He is a great young guy and I like his style.
“For his age, he has everything you need for a midfield player. He wants to play football, he is strong, clear, cool.
“It is not easy for these guys [young players] to train for the first time with a new manager and think he might make a final judgement.
“That’s not how I work, but of course these guys don’t know this. I enjoy working with these guys – and Cameron is really a talent.”
Brannagan could line up for the 18-time English champions against Bournemouth in the League Cup fourth round at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Liverpool are still waiting for their first win under Klopp after a 1-1 draw with Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
The Reds have drawn with Tottenham Hotspur, Russia side Rubin Kazan and Ronald Koeman’s Saints side since Klopp took over the reins.
