Klopp delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Chelsea clash
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirms Christian Benteke should be fit to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Jurgen Klopp says he is “pretty sure” Christian Benteke will be fit to face Chelsea on Saturday.
The Belgium international didn’t feature in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth in the fourth round of the League Cup at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds striker came off the bench to score the opener in a 1-1 draw with Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday but complained off discomfort in his knee after the stalemate.
Liverpool are also without England international Daniel Sturridge after the 26-year-old suffered a knee problem in training after the Merseyside derby earlier this month.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Klopp confirmed that Sturridge won’t play any part against his former employers but the German backed Benteke to be ready for the game against the defending Premier League champions.
“I’m pretty sure Christian Benteke will be back for the match against Chelsea,” Klopp told Sky Sports News. “Daniel Sturridge has no chance to be fit.”
Liverpool are two points ahead of 15th-placed Chelsea after 10 Premier League games.
The Reds set up a quarter-final clash against Southampton thanks to their victory over the Cherries last night.
