Klopp delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Chelsea game
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Christian Benteke is ready to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool striker Christian Benteke trained “normally” ahead of their clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The Belgium international didn’t feature in Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth in the League Cup on Wednesday night after receiving a knock to his knee in first-team training.
However, Klopp confirmed that the £32.5m summer signing trained without any issues at Melwood on Friday morning ahead of their game against the defending Premier League champions.
“It’s better than yesterday,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference at Melwood training ground on Friday afternoon.
“Christian trained quite normally together with one of our fitness coaches and it was good, he was okay. He’s prepared for tomorrow, I would say, so that’s the only thing that changed.”
Klopp added that Kolo Toure and Daniel Sturridge won’t feature against the Blues as the pair recover from their respective injury setbacks.
Klopp continued: “Kolo has not the most serious injury but it’s enough that he cannot play tomorrow. No Daniel [Sturridge].”
Liverpool are in ninth place in the Premier League table after 13 points from their opening 10 games.
The Reds are two points ahead of Jose Mourinho’s side ahead of their clash in west London on Saturday.
