Kurt Zouma reveals Chelsea’s problem after West Ham defeat
Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma says the Blues are too relaxed mentally
Kurt Zouma says Chelsea are too relaxed mentally after their sixth defeat of the Premier League season.
The Blues suffered a 2-1 loss to derby rivals West Ham United at Upton Park after Andy Carroll scored the Hammers’s winner with six minutes remaining in east London.
We are all motivated – not to make a spectacular comeback but simply to return to our normal levels
Defending champions Chelsea are in 15th place in the Premier League after a measly return of just 11 points from 10 games this season.
And Zouma believes Jose Mourinho’s side are lacking an edge mentally after the west London side’s worst start to a top-flight campaign since the start of the Premier League in 1992.
Zouma told The Sun: “We have relaxed too much mentally. Our feet got too close to the fire.
“I don’t know why we have not been able to achieve good things this season with the great players we have in our squad. But we are starting to wake up.
“We are all motivated – not to make a spectacular comeback but simply to return to our normal levels.”
Chelsea have already conceded 21 goals after 10 Premier League games this season after the Blues let in just 32 in their title-winning campaign.
The Blues face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.
