Wenger delivers latest Arsenal team news ahead of Swansea clash
Arsene Wenger delivers the latest Arsenal team news ahead of Saturday's trip to Swansea in the Premier League
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out of action until after the forthcoming international break as Arsenal gear up for their trip to Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday.
Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a hamstring injury just minutes into Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
Walcott was his replacement but the England international sustained a calf problem soon after and also had to be replaced.
The Arsenal boss confirmed that the duo had undergone scans this week but admitted that neither would feature until after the forthcoming international break, with the Gunners back in action against West Bromwich Albion on 21 November.
Wenger told Arsenal’s website: “Nothing has changed since after the game. They are out but the scans are today – it’s 48 hours afterwards. We hope they are light injuries, but they are out until after the international break.”
The Gunners boss also confirmed that Aaron Ramsey, David Ospina and Mikel Arteta all remain sidelined for Saturday’s clash at the Liberty Stadium.
Asked about who he could call upon to play on the right of midfield, Wenger replied: [Joel] Campbell and Alex Iwobi. Santi [Cazorla] can play there as well but he has become very important centrally.
“The problem sometimes is that you can destroy two departments if you move one player out. We control the ball better with Santi in the middle.”
