Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Middlesbrough clash
Louis van Gaal delivers the latest Manchester United team news ahead of Wednesday's League Cup clash
Antonio Valencia has been ruled out of Manchester United’s League Cup clash with Middlesbrough on Wednesday, Louis van Gaal has revealed.
The Ecuador international was substituted late on during the Red Devils’ goalless draw with Manchester City in Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford after picking up a foot injury.
And Van Gaal confirmed that Valencia would not feature during the fourth-round clash at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils boss also said that he has not decided on his final line-up for the game as he tries to rotate his squad following a hectic few weeks.
Van Gaal told MUTV: “Of course, Valencia is injured – that we could all see.
“But I have a lot of players in the ‘red zone’ because we have had a lot of matches and we have a lot of matches to play.
“I have to see if I can use them or not. I have to decide tomorrow [Wednesday]. We need all the days to recover at this moment, so it is difficult to say.”
Van Gaal also revealed that James Wilson and Andreas Pereira are both in his thoughts for the game.
He continued: “Yes, of course they are in the selection [the squad]. But I have to select the line-up and that I don’t know. I have to do that on Wednesday.”
United are currently fourth in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City.
Van Gaal’s men gear up for a trip to Crystal Palace in the top flight next weekend as they look to return to winning ways.
