Lee Dixon: Arsenal have more problems than David Ospina
The former Arsenal defender discusses David Ospina's mistake
Lee Dixon says Arsenal have more problems than David Opsina after their 3-2 defeat by Olympiacos on Tuesday night.
The Colombia international has faced the brunt of the criticism aimed at Arsene Wenger’s side after his mistake resulted in the Greek side’s second goal at The Emirates.
The Arsenal manager was also questioned on his decision to rest £11m summer signing Petr Cech and start second-choice goalkeeper Ospina for a must-win Champions League game.
However, former Gunners defender Dixon defended Ospina after his high-profile mistake, pointing to Cech’s error-strewn performance against West Ham United earlier this season.
“I don’t know why he left him out,” Dixon told ITV Sport. “Maybe he was resting him for the Arsenal game. But Arsenal didn’t lose the game because of Ospina.
“He made a mistake. Cech made two mistakes against West Ham and lost the game. There are more problems than Ospina being in goal.”
Arsenal are bottom of Group F without any points after back-to-back defeats by Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos.
The Gunners face the daunting prospect of back-to-back games against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Wenger’s men take on Manchester United at The Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday.
