Liverpool legend claims Jose Mourinho is on verge of Chelsea sack
Dietmar Hamann says Jose Mourinho is on borrowed time at Chelsea...
Dietmar Hamann has claimed that Jose Mourinho is on the verge of being sacked by Chelsea following the west London club’s stuttering start to the season.
The Blues slumped to their eighth defeat in all competitions on Tuesday night as they were knocked out of the League Cup on penalties by Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
Chelsea have lost half of their 16 games this season to leave their title defence in tatters heading into this weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
And former Liverpool midfielder Hamann feels that Mourinho is close to being dismissed by the Blues following their poor start to the new season.
Hamann said on talkSPORT: “I think he’s got a mountain to climb to get back on track. But whether he’s gone too far already remains to be seen. I think so, and I’m not sure there’s a way back.
“The team is struggling and they are conceding too many goals. Can I see Mourinho there for the long haul? I’m not sure because I think he’s fallen out with too many players and you’ve got to have these people on board.
“I’m not saying you’ve got to pamper them and let them do what they want, but some of the things he’s said in recent weeks regarding Hazard, Terry, Ivanovic, it was just a step too far and I’ve never seen it at any top club in the past.
“Once the game starts on Saturday you need players who will go through a brick wall for you. Are they going to go through a brick wall for him at the moment? I don’t think so. Hence they will find it hard to win football matches.”
Chelsea head into Saturday’s clash with Liverpool in 15th place in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Manchester City.
The Blues were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United in their most recent top-flight outing last weekend.
