Jordon Ibe says Brendan Rodgers has played an important role in his Liverpool career.

The Northern Irishman was sacked by the Merseyside outfit last weekend after a 1-1 draw with Everton.

Jurgen Klopp was announced as the new Reds manager last Thursday after he penned a three-year deal with the 18-time English champions.

While Ibe is relishing the chance to play under the German, the Liverpool forward paid tribute to the manager who gave him his first chance at Anfield.

“It’s a shame [about Rodgers], because he was an important man in my career,” Ibe told Daily Mirror.

“But that’s how football is. There’s no promises in football and I wish him all the best for the future.

“I now need to focus and work under the new manager, he’s got good experience and did some great stuff with Borussia Dortmund.”

The 19-year-old made his Premier League debut in a 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Ibe has established himself as a first-team regular under Rodgers over the past 12 months, making 14 appearances in all competitions.
