Liverpool transfers: Jurgen Klopp will need a lot of money, says ex-Germany man
Thomas Hitzlsperger says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will need to invest a lot of money in Reds squad
Thomas Hitzlsperger says Liverpool will need to give Jurgen Klopp significant funds to improve the Red squad.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’s successor on Thursday evening after he put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the Anfield outfit.
If they trust their manager, which they do, they will give him a lot of money to spend and the title is possible
Klopp has already been linked with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Dortmund forward Marco Reus over the weekend following the 48-year-old’s appointment.
Former Aston Villa and Bayern midfielder explained why Klopp would require plenty of time and money from the Liverpool board.
“Now you see, that the Premier League is very close together. I think they have the chance to qualify for the Champions League,” Hitzlsperger told Goal.
“They are no contender for the title this season, maybe next year.
“They are ready to invest a lot of money. If they trust their manager, which they do, they will give him a lot of money to spend and the title is possible.”
Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers signed seven new players in the summer transfer window, splashing almost £100m on new signings.
Belgium international Christian Benteke became the club’s second most-expensive player after his £32.5m move from Villa.
Roberto Firmino, meanwhile, joined in a £32.5m deal from Hoffenheim, whilst Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner, Joe Gomez and Adam Bogdan all moved to the Merseyide outfit.
