Man United midfielder Ander Herrera sets out his target
Ander Herrera is determined to earn a place in the Spain squad for Euro 2016 next summer
Ander Herrera has underlined his determination to force his way into the Spain squad for next summer’s European championship in France.
The Manchester United midfielder is currently sidelined with what is believed to be a knee injury and is working on regaining his fitness with Marcos Rojo at the Red Devils’ Carrington training complex during the international break.
Herrera’s place in the Red Devils’ first team has been placed under threat following the arrival of additional competition in the form of summer signings Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
However, the 26-year-old remains optimistic of retaining a place in the United first-team as he looks to earn his spot in the Spain squad for next summer’s tournament.
Herrera told MUTV: “I know we have, in Spain, maybe the best midfielders in the world right now but I think I have the quality to be in the national team.
I will fight for it. I fought last season for that and I am trying to do it again. I think I have the quality to be in it and I am showing that.
“I think I am ready to help the team [at United], help my team-mates, and I am going to play wherever the manager wants me to play.
“So I am doing the right things to get into the national team but, of course, the [international] manager will decide.”
Herrera will be hoping to be fit and to feature when United return to Premier League action with a trip to Everton after the international break.
The Red Devils are looking to return to winning ways after their 3-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend.
