Man United star Anthony Martial rejects comparison to Arsenal legend
The Manchester United striker rubbishes comparisons with Thierry Henry
Anthony Martial has played down comparisons with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
The 19-year-old was likened to the former Gunners striker after he completed a £36m move to Manchester United from Ligue 1 side Monaco on transfer deadline day.
I still have everything to prove. By continuing to work, I will try to reach his level but I am still very far off
The France international has scored four times in five games in all competitions, including goals against bitter rivals Liverpool, Southampton and Ipswich Town.
Inevitably, the United summer signing have been likened to Henry after his clinical start to his Red Devils career, but Martial isn’t getting carried away with the compliment.
“I know this is a very great player who is a legend in England. But I do not think we have the same characteristics. Thierry Henry is Thierry Henry,” Martial is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“I still have everything to prove. By continuing to work, I will try to reach his level but I am still very far off.”
Martial’s £36m fee could rise to £58m over the course of his United career.
The Frenchman became Europe’s most-expensive teenager after his big-money summer move.
Martial was unable to help United avoid a 3-0 defeat by north London side Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
Third-placed United make the short trip to Goodison Park to face Everton in their next Premier League on 17 October.
