Mesut Ozil has silenced his critics, declares Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
Mesut Ozil has earned yet more praise from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger believes that Mesut Ozil has silenced his critics with his impressive display in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Manchester United before the international break.
The Germany playmaker has often been accused of failing to produce consistent performances against top opposition following his big-money transfer to the north London club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.
I believe there are goals in him
However, Ozil – who turned 27 on Thursday – scored one and set up another as Wenger’s men ran out impressive winners against the Red Devils earlier this month at Emirates Stadium.
And the Gunners boss feels that Ozil has now set a new standard for himself as he looks to continue his good form when Arsenal travel to Watford in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Wenger told a news conference on Thursday at Emirates Stadium: “You want Mesut to score as well in a big game and he did that against Man United.
“When you are an offensive player that is an important part of it.
“I believe there are goals in him and in that game he has shown it.
“I think it can increase the belief and the hunger of the team. On the other hand you have to show that you can come into every game with that focus.”
Arsenal head into Saturday’s game in second place in the Premier League table and just two points behind early leaders Manchester City.
