Michael Owen rejects talk of Chelsea sacking Jose Mourinho
The former Liverpool and Man United striker defends Jose Mourinho
Michael Owen doesn’t believe Jose Mourinho deserves to be sacked just months after leading Chelsea to the Premier League title.
The Blues manager ruled the west London side out of the title race on Saturday evening after a 3-1 loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are in 16th place and 10 points behind current leaders Manchester City, who were emphatic 6-1 winners against Newcastle United at St James’s Park.
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen is shocked to see speculation surrounding Mourinho’s position at the defending champions.
Owen told Sportslobster: “Loving Mourinho’s comments after the game. Are people serious talking about him getting the sack? His record is phenomenal and Chelsea blitzed the Premier League last season. I don’t get it.”
Willian gave the home side a 10th-minute lead before goals from Steven Davis, Saido Mane and Graziano Pelle sealed a shock 3-1 victory for the visitors.
Chelsea have lost to City, Crystal Palace, Everton and Southampton so far this season.
The Blues welcome struggling Aston Villa to west London in their next fixture on 17 October.
