Paul Merson: Why Arsenal must beat Man United
Paul Merson says Arsenal are already facing a must-win game in their season
Paul Merson says Arsenal are already facing a must-win game against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners suffered a shock 3-2 defeat by Olympiacos in the Champions League in north London on Tuesday night.
This game is a big as it gets, it’s Super Sunday with a capital ‘S’
Arsenal are in fourth place after a return of 12 points from their opening seven Premier League games, whilst Arsene Wenger’s side are four points behind leaders Manchester United.
And former Arsenal midfielder Merson explained why the FA Cup holders can’t afford to lose to their bitter rivals after their mid-week shock in Europe.
“The Manchester United game is a must-win game and Arsenal have put themselves under severe pressure now,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“This game is a big as it gets, it’s Super Sunday with a capital ‘S’.
“There is not much that can be changed in terms of players, obviously the goalkeeper has to come back in. He is a world class goalkeeper, you play your best players.
“I’m one of Manchester United’s biggest critics, they haven’t done well and they are not as good as they used to be.
“But if they win this game they will become massive players in the Premier League title race. If they can go to the Emirates and win then they will be big, big players.”
Arsenal were 5-2 winners against high-flying Leicester City at King Power Stadium ion the Premier League last weekend.
Alexis Sanchez scored his first Arsenal hat-trick against the Foxes, whilst Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott also got on the score sheet.
The Gunners are bottom of Champions League Group F following back-to-back defeats in Europe.
