Paul Merson is backing West Ham United to make Chelsea work hard for a 2-1 victory at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues make the short journey across London to take on Slaven Billic’s side looking to make it back to back victories in the Premier League after their win over Aston Villa last weekend.

Chelsea will be desperate to claim a victory and start to move up the Premier League table after their stuttering start to the campaign has left Jose Mourinho’s men 10 points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games.

And despite the Blues warming up for Saturday’s game with a goalless draw against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League in midweek, former Arsenal man Merson feels that the west London side will have too much for the Hammers.

Merson told Sky Sports: “If I were Chelsea I’d be happy this game is at Upton Park, considering West Ham’s recent away form!

“This is still a hard game for Chelsea though, and they’re in a position where they must win as many games as possible. Each week they just have to tick each game off as it comes.

“West Ham have been very impressive this season but if Eden Hazard finally turns up in a game – he needs to turn up sooner or later – I see Chelsea winning, although I’m not 100 per cent sure.”

West Ham United are currently fourth in the table and six points ahead of Mourinho’s men.
