Pepe Reina says he wants to see Liverpool return to their former glory following Brendan Rodgers’s exit.

The 18-time English champions sacked the Northern Irishman following a 1-1 draw with Everton in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Napoli goalkeeper left the Merseyside outfit after a seven-year stay under Rodgers’s reign, joining the Serie A side on loan in 2013 before the shot stopper moved to Bayern Munich in a permanent deal in 2014.

However, Reina, who returned to Napoli on a free transfer in the summer, still has a soft spot for Liverpool, taking to Twitter to react to Rodgers’s sacking.

Reina won the FA Cup and finished as a Champions League runner-up during his eight-year stay at Anfield.

The Spanish goalkeeper was signed from Villarreal in a £6m deal in 2005 by former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

Reina left the Reds after Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet in a £9m deal from Sunderland in 2013.
