Ander Herrera says Manchester United are ready to prove that they deserve to be in the knockout stage after a 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils came from behind to secure a hard-fought point in Russia after 19-year-old summer signing Anthony Martial cancelled out Seydou Doumbia’s first-half opener.

Louis van Gaal’s side are in second place in Group B, two points behind Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, level on three points with CSKA but a point clear of Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.

And Herrera, who started back-to-back games for the first time this season, thanks United supporters who made the long journey to Moscow for the group-stage clash.

Herrera wrote on the photo-sharing app: “A well earned point in Moscow, now it’s time to prove in Old Trafford that we deserve to be on the next round, thanks to our fans for making the long trip and their support”

The Red Devils beat Wolfsburg at Old Trafford after a 2-1 loss to PSV in their Champions League opener.
