Bastian Schweinsteiger has taken to social media to express his disappointment at Manchester United’s failure to beat Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils were held to a goalless draw by their bitter rivals at Old Trafford in what was a largely disappointing Manchester derby clash.

The result left United in fourth place in the Premier League, while City moved top of the table on goal difference ahead of Arsenal.

Schweinsteiger posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account on Sunday evening and wrote: “We wanted this victory so bad! Unfortunately we couldn’t reward ourselves after a great second half. #mufc”

There wasn’t a shot on target until the 82nd minute at Old Trafford, when Jesus Navas’s was effort saved by Manchester United keeper David De Gea.

Substitute Jesse Lingard hit the crossbar with a lofted effort moments later, before City goalkeeper Joe Hart tipped Chris Smalling’s shot around his near post.

United travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League next weekend as they look to return to winning ways in the top flight.
