Bastian Schweinsteiger has taken to social media to send a happy birthday message to Wayne Rooney after the Manchester United striker turned 30 on Saturday.

Schweinsteiger and his United team-mates are gearing up for Sunday’s Premier League showdown with local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Rooney celebrated turning 30 as the Red Devils completed their final preparations for the crunch derby clash.

And Schweinsteiger was one of the first of Rooney’s team-mates to wish him all the best via a post on social media.

Schweinsteiger shared the picture above on his personal Instagram account on Saturday morning and wrote: “Happy Birthday and all the best to my friend, @waynerooney! 😃

United head into Sunday’s showdown in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders City. A win would move them above their local rivals.

The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek after their 3-0 win over Everton in the top flight last weekend.
