Asmir Begovic looked to take his mind of a humiliating 3-1 defeat by Southampton after he sent a message to his wife to celebrate her birthday.

The Stamford Bridge fixture started well for the defending Premier League champions after Willian edged the Blues into a 1-0 lead.

However, the Serbia international proved powerless to prevent Steven Davis from levelling for the visitors, before Saido Mane and Graziano Pelle both beat Begovic in the second half to secure three points.

But Begovic looked to turn his focus to matters even closer to his heart after the former Stoke City shot stopper sent a message to his wife on his Instagram page.

Begovic wrote on the photo-sharing app: “Happy 30th Birthday to my amazing wife @nicollebegovic! Love you.”

The 28-year-old goalkeeper moved to the west London side in a £4m deal from Stoke City in the summer transfer window.
